The Royal Bank (TRB) Foundation, on Thursday commissioned five boreholes in some communities in the Ayensuano District Assembly in the Eastern Region.
The communities are Asoboi Ahyiakrom, Mankrong, Budu, Anom and Dzatokope.
Mr Robert Bentil, the Managing Director of the Royal Bank, told journalists during a tour of the facilities that the main objective of the Foundation is to give back to society.
He urged opinion leaders in the various communities to ensure the proper maintenance of the boreholes.
“We expect that community members take very good care of the borehole provided,” he added.
He said the Bank would continue to support the communities, provided they maintained these facilities.
Mr Faustell Kwashie Asogba Cofie, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TRB Foundation, explained that these communities were selected on the basis of a demonstrable need for potable drinking water.
He said the Foundation also focuses on health, sanitation and water, support for education and support for culture and sport.
He said these were the first 10 of the 60 communities around the country, which would benefit from the Foundation’s water project.
He disclosed that five communities in the Central Region would be the next to benefit from the project.
“We will then move to the Volta and other regions in that order,” he added.
The Foundation was tasked during its launch to construct sixty boreholes to provide potable water to needy communities, within a year.
Mr Mike Ofei Darko, the Ayensuano District Chief Executive, commended the management of the Bank for the facilities.
Nana William Teye Kwame, Chief of Anom, expressed gratitude to the Bank for borehole, saying about 35 settlement communities would benefit from the borehole.
Madam Florence Ayinu, a resident, told the Ghana News Agency that, the facility would protect the community from contracting diseases, because the water the community previously depended on for drinking, before the construction of the borehole, was nothing to write home about.
