James Agbey says NDC government appointees should be wary
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Agbey, has criticised some government appointees of President John Dramani Mahama, accusing them of showing arrogance and disrespect towards party grassroots supporters and footsoldiers.
In a press statement dated Sunday, May 17, 2026, Agbey said some ministers, Chief Executive Officers, and heads of state institutions have become inaccessible and dismissive towards party members who worked for the NDC’s return to power.

“As a longstanding operative, active and loyal member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I am infuriated by the continuous disdainful attitude of government appointees towards NDC grassroots membership and footsoldiers,” he stated.
He argued that appointees must remain accountable to party supporters and should not distance themselves after assuming office.
According to him, public officials have a responsibility to listen to concerns from party activists and ordinary Ghanaians.
“Yes, as a high-flying government official and apparatchik, you should always be available to field questions and inquiries, listen to people’s problems, and address their grievances. This is what you're sworn to do. It is the duty you owe the electorate and party activists who helped propel the party into government,” he said.
Agbey further criticised comments by some appointees that they were serving Ghana and not NDC footsoldiers, describing such statements as arrogant.
“Therefore, the assertion by some of these appointees that they are in office to serve Ghana and not NDC footsoldiers is arrogance beyond belief. And it makes both the party and government look so ridiculous,” he stated.
The NDC member specifically mentioned the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Afrey Biney, accusing him of turning away party supporters.
“Take, for instance, Kwesi Afrey Biney, the Director General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), who has on numerous occasions turned away party folks simply on the basis that he's in office to serve Ghana and not the NDC,” he alleged.
Agbey warned that appointees should remember the sacrifices made by grassroots supporters to bring the NDC back into government.
“You're in power and serving as an appointee because of the toils and sweat of these footsoldiers. The arrogance and disdain must stop, and it must stop now,” he stressed.
He also referenced President Mahama’s call for humility and respect among public officials, urging appointees to follow the president’s directive.

“President Mahama's message on his investiture on January 7, 2025, was clear, passionate, and deeply resonant; ‘I'll not tolerate disrespect and arrogance in my government’,” he quoted.
Agbey concluded by urging all NDC members to speak against what he described as growing intolerance within the party and government.
