John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the fight against corruption should be extensive but not restricted to political opponents.

According to Mahama, officials of the ruling party should be subjected to scrutiny, not just those in opposition.

He stated, "The greatest fight against corruption is not just about prosecuting your political opponents. It is also about dealing with your own people when they indulge in the same thing."

He said this in a town hall meeting with the youth on August 12, 2024.

Mahama acknowledged the difficulty in prosecuting his own but assured the demand for accountability and prosecution to help fight corruption in the country.

"We might be friends, but sometimes it's painful, and I have an example: Abuga Pele is my friend; he and others were prosecuted during my tenure. I was not happy doing it, but one got to do what he got to do. And so yes, we will pursue corrupt officials, and we will deal with them. When we are dealing with them, when somebody does the same in our administration, that person will be dealt with," he mentioned.

"So I have sounded a warning to anyone who wants to be a minister or CEO in John Mahama's administration: if the office of special prosecutor comes after you, you are on your own. I am not a clearing agent; I will not clear you," he added.
