The media plays a critical role in modern warfare
The Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Major General Matthew Essien has called on the media in Ghana to prioritize training journalists to have the necessary skills and knowledge to report on military and security-related issues.
He emphasized that the media plays a critical role in modern warfare, as recent events have shown how adversaries use the media to sway public opinion or manipulate sentiment in their favor.
He also noted that the media has been used in past conflicts to incite violence and, in some cases, has been a breeding ground for wars and disturbances.
"In our modern world, the media cannot be excluded from any field. The media has the power to build up or tear down any institution, so it is my hope that all media personnel are trained to report on military-related issues in a way that supports the efforts of the military and other security agencies in maintaining peace in the country.
"It is common for media personnel in other countries to specialize in military operations, but this seems to be lacking in our country. Therefore, I urge the media in Ghana to undergo training in this area to help protect Ghana. This is why the media has been invited to this event," Maj. Gen. Essien stated in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb after delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony for the 'Multi-domain Operations and Future Warfare Course' organized by the GAFCSC.
The objective of the course is to enhance participants' understanding of the concept of multi-domain operations and its importance in modern warfare. It aims to explore the contributions of land, maritime, air power, cyber, and nuclear capabilities to multi-domain operations and prepare for future conflicts.
