The 'showbiz' birthday party that slipped Accra

Fri, 23 Mar 2001 Source: --

The Graphic Showbiz says what most theatre lovers in Accra would remember the evening of Friday, January 12 for, is the premier of KSM's hilarious comedy "Politically Incorrect", which came off with a bang that night.

But while everybody was laughing 'hilariously' at the National Theatre, a relatively small group of about 150 guests were having a bigger celebration at a much smaller theatre in the home of Edwina Banda at the Airport residential area where the beau was throwing her 40th birthday party.

Although it is reported to have been such a big bash, only a few people not on the invite list got wind of it before ... and after, including SHOWBIZ. The event slipped by largely unnoticed. But Ovation International magazine who flew staff from Lagos to cover the event, reports that "For the fabulously wealthy husband of Edwina, Alhaji Asuma Banda, the occasion provided an opportunity for showering love on his stunning wife. And nothing was in short supply.

The glitterati of Ghana came in droves, dressed to kill. The party would have passed for a royal dinner at the famous Buckingham Palace in London. The tables were meticulously laid out. Each, with a silver frame for the menu bottles of wine, silvery plates, sparkling cutlery and other eye-popping decorations.

The biggest surprise of the night was the arrival of Ghana's brand new President who was barely five days old in power.
