The sports minister should be fired - Ablakwa after Akufo-Addo sacked NSA boss

The North Tongu Member Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for the dismissal of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, due to the poor condition of the country's stadia.

He believes the minister should be held accountable for failing to ensure proper maintenance by the sporting authorities.

Ablakwa argued that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's decision to sack Interim National Sports Authority Director General, Dodzie Numekevor, is insufficient to address the issues.

"President Akufo-Addo's face-saving dismissal of the NSA boss cannot suffice. The sports minister must equally be fired, and all those responsible for this humongous international disgrace and huge financial loss to the state should be prosecuted.

"Creating one scapegoat is not adequate deterrence for the unprecedented monumental international embarrassment the corrupt and inept Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has subjected Ghana to," he wrote on X.

This call for action follows CAF's withdrawal of approval for the Baba Yara Stadium due to issues like an uneven playing field, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.

This decision was made after the September 5, 2024, Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying match between Ghana and Angola.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has instructed the Ghana Football Association to invite CAF officials to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the Legon Stadium to determine whether they meet the standards for hosting Black Stars games.
