Former Minister of Communications, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, has criticised the Akufo-Addo-led administration for undermining all state institutions and contributing to the current economic crisis in the country.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a tradition of rape, pillage, and causing bankruptcy.

Speaking in a recent interview on TV3, Dr. Spio-Gabrah stated these actions of the party compromised the good intentions of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, who refused to jail corrupt officials of the party during former president Kufuor’s regime.

“This government has debased the whole country, taking it completely into bankruptcy, and undermined all public institutions.

"Misconduct has taken place in the legislative branch, where we have been seeing them fight on global television. All the way to the judiciary, where many other funny things have taken place, and to other state institutions.

“Whether it is National Security, Office of the Special Prosecutor. This is how Ghana became bankrupt: 3 million, 12 million there. This is what Okudzeto Ablakwa presented at the end of many corruption scandals.

"You are in the media. There are over 100 corruption scandals, and unfortunately there were over 100 cases against the NPP when Kufuor left the office. As our colleague, Hon. Kwamena Ahwoi, wrote in a book, the NDC was ready to prosecute over 100 cases.

"President Rawlings accepted it then and said, This is very good. Go ahead and prosecute, but according to the book, some of them went to Prof. Mills just to inform him that this is what we are going to do.

"But Prof. Mills said no, I am a father of all to encourage new thinking in Ghana. Where we can forgive to avoid recriminations. Today Prof. Mills has been maligned and undermined by this NPP government.

"What Prof. Mills was seeking to do was, if all the sins of the NPP had been forgiven, then the sins would not have been repeated. This is even worse; that is why they say that the NDC has no evidence against them. They are innocent; they are encouraged to dip their hands into every pie, putting us all into complete bankruptcy," he noted.

He further criticised the NPP government for not respecting Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy.

“The difference between the two parties is very clear. We in the NDC believe in what Kwame Nkrumah did for Ghana, Do. You know what the NPP believes? Nkrumah does not belong to the NDC. If Matthew Opoku Prempeh believes that Nkrumah is nobody and is not worth considering,. That tells you something. He does not even respect Nkrumah but wants to be vice president," he stated.

"You can't take the person seriously. That is part of the tradition—to rape, pillage, and go bankrupt. We came to build the nation, and they came to destroy. We don't want any further destruction of the Ghanaian economy and family traditions," he stated.
