There Are Enough Evidence To Prosecute Dr Kwabena Adjei-Afag

The Vice President for pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance, Abu Ramadan says AFAG is expecting the police to interrogate and possibly prosecute the party chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Dr Kwabena Adjei for what they refer to as his subversive comments on the judiciary.

Yesterday, the Ghana Police Service invited Dr Kwabena Adjei to the CID headquarters for questioning. This follows a complaint lodged at the Nima Divisional Police headquarters by AFAG. AFAG had said at a press conference that Dr Ajei’s comment that the NDC will clean the judiciary of rot if the Chief Justice fails to so was treasonable and subversive.

Abu Ramadan, told Emefa Apawu, host of the Big Bite on X fm, a private radio station in Accra that AFAG formally lodged the complaint because the police had claimed they were unable to arrest Dr Kwabena Adjei because no official complaints had been lodged.

By this, he said AFAG is expecting the police to find out from Dr Adjei what he meant by his comments and what means he intended using to purge the judiciary. “They should interrogate him, ask him questions that bother on his comments, and they should find out from him which way and means he will use to cleanse the judiciary. We want to know, he should mention names, and then, the police should take it up for prosecution” Mr Ramadan said.

Following the complaints, the police invited the party chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei to the CID headquarters for questioning. Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Superintendant kwesi Ofori says it is not known when Dr Adjei will honour the invitation because he is out of town. He however was not able to tell what possible charges could be brought against Dr Kwabena Adjei.

However, the NDC is not particularly worried about this new development. Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Adams says AFAG is only expressing their constitutional rights. In the end, he says it will be left to the police to determine whether Dr Kwabena Adjei’s comments were treasonable or not and whether they amount to prosecution.

Mr Adams also attributed the new twist of events to the opposition New Patriotic Party, who he says are using all kinds of means to derail the “Better Ghana” agenda of the NDC. “This brings to fore the plan of the NPP derail the forward match of this country and the disorganization of the NDC,” Mr Kofi Adams said.
