There Is No Corruption In Govt - AG

THE Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Papa Owusu Ankomah has dismissed allegations of corruption in government and challenged anyone who has concrete evidence of corruption in government circles to make it available for investigations.

Papa Ankomah was speaking at a hand over ceremony of the executive of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Cape Coast at the weekend.

He also stated categorically that the government has no intention of repealing the law on ? wilfully causing financial loss to the state?.

He said any person found by the courts to have breached this law should be ready to accept the judgements given by the courts.

He added that the NPP government believes in the rule of law and will work to ensure that people abide by the laws of the land.

He said the law on ?wilfully causing financial loss to the state? will only be repealed if the generality of Ghanaians believe that it has outlived its usefulness.

Papa Ankomah stated that this country cannot progress without the rule of law and urged all to ensure that the law reigns supreme.

He advised TESCON members to work hard to ensure that the NPP retains power in the year 2004.

The Minister of Defence, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, cited corrupt leadership, intolerance and negative attitudes of the people as major factors which have led to increasing poverty in African countries and called for positive attitudes to speed up socio-economic growth.

The Minister of Regional Co-operation and NEPAD, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, said the government will continue to be transparent in its activities and create a free environment for individuals and enterprises to grow.

He advised NPP members to step up their campaign to ensure that the party retains power to continue its development goals.

The outgoing President, Mr Charles Owiredu, said the branch has put in place a programme to educate the people on government policies.

The new executive has as its President, Mr Ahmed Baba Yahyah; Vice-President, Mr Charles Adu Gyamfi, and Secretary, Mr Samuel Appiah Kubi.

The Organising Secretary is Richard Ayiam while Miss Linda Boamah is the Women?s Organiser.
