There are currently over 18.6 million registered voters on the register, the Electoral Commission has revealed. The body has also recorded 778,447 new voters in the recent limited registration exercise.
Chairperson Jean Mensa disclosed this when she appeared before Parliament on the Commission’s preparations for the upcoming December 7 polls. According to her, a mop-up exercise is scheduled for Thursday, August 1, 2024, to Saturday, August 3, 2024, in all district offices and the newly created Guan district to ensure that all eligible voters are registered.
She noted that the voter exhibition exercise has been rescheduled to August to accommodate this mop-up exercise.
She also disclosed that the EC has recruited 210,000 officials who will undergo training to effectively carry out their duties.
The EC chair highlighted that the Commission now has complete data on all recruited staff, ensuring better management and coordination.
She also announced the filing fees for both presidential and parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December 7 polls. She said the filing fee for the presidential election is GH¢100,000, while the parliamentary candidates will pay GH¢10,000. Mensa added that they will waive 25 percent of the filing fees for women and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) as part of efforts to encourage greater participation.
