Senior Minster, Yaw Osafo Maafo, has said that there is a moral slide in churches in the country.

According to him, churches embrace criminals and corrupt individuals so far as these individuals can provide the financial assistance they need.

He lamented that the church is losing its position as the moral torchlight in the society, as well as the fight against corruption in the country.

“At first the churches won’t touch you if you have been to jail, let alone come and preside over a harvest occasion. But these days the churches have ignored this part. There is a moral slide and it is therefore important what we do as an example to the society”, Mr. Osafo Maafo said.

The Senior Minister made these submissions during a panel discussion at the launch of the National Anti-Corruption and Transparency week on Monday, November 4, 2017 at the La Palm Royal Beach hotel.

He made reference to instances whereby the church looks out for wealthy people to chair their financial events such as harvest programmes without considering the source of the person’s wealth.

“But if during harvests the church will look for a wealthy man to go and chair a harvest, irrespective of how this man made his money, and the whole congregation, the whole village, the whole town knows that Mr. XYZ who has come as chairman came from prison a year ago, [then] what lesson is being taught in the whole community?”, he asked.
