There is great hope for the NPP - Veep

Accra, June 7, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Wednesday noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had a great future and hope for the country judging from the wealth of experience members of the Party had.

He expressed the hope that the Party would grow bigger and stronger than before to guarantee the Party's victory in Election 2008. Vice President Mahama was speaking at the inauguration of NPP National Council Committees made up of six sub-committees, which he said was sure to lead the NPP to victory in the next elections.

The Committees are: The Finance Committee, chaired by Collins Adu-Gyamfi; Constitution and Legal Committee, chaired by Mr Peter Ala Adjetey and Conference and Event Organizing Committee, chaired by Ms Esther Ofori.

Others are the Research and Strategy Committee, chaired by Mr Daniel Botwe; Organizing Committee chaired by Major Courage Quashigah (rtd) and the Communication and Network Committee, chaired by Nana Ohene Ntow, the Party's General Secretary.

The Vice President mentioned commitment to work as the key to success and urged members of the various committees to keep to the oath of office they had sworn.

He said: "To realize the Party's dream, members need to move to the regions and make contacts with the Regional Ministers and the District Chief Executives. We need to win the propaganda war and even reach out to the Diaspora."

Vice President Mahama again expressed the hope that the Committees would work to achieve the dreams of the Party, come 2008. Mr Peter Ala Adjetey, Former Speaker of Parliament, who spoke on behalf of the committee members, called on fellow committee members to work hard to consolidate the Party's position in the country. "Attend meeting. Find time for the work of the committee and make the Party strong to win the 2008 elections for a third term," he said. Mr Ala Adjetey pledged commitment to the work on behalf of the members and said that they would work hard to ensure the Party's re-election into office.

Mr Peter Mac Manu, Chairman of the Party, reiterated the need for members of the various committees to approach the task before them with diligence and determination.

"Submit quarterly report to the National Executive Committee," he said, adding, that the way members worked would have consequences on the Party's fortunes in 2008.

He noted that the formation of the committees was in line with Article 9, Clause 5 of the Party's constitution and approved by the National Council of the Party.

Mr Felix Owusu Agyapong, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, congratulated the newly appointed members and stressed the need for them to work hard to achieve victory for the Party in the next general election. 7 June 06
