A former National Organizer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Osei Akoto, has stated that his party winning the upcoming December 2024 presidential election would be the second Independence Day for Ghana.

According to him, the country is currently under a form of colonialism under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, Osei Akoto explained that Ghanaians are experiencing oppression under this government, akin to colonialism.

He added that President Akufo-Addo is no different from the colonial masters whom Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, fought against for the country’s independence on March 6, 1957.

"NDC winning the election this December will be Ghana's second independence since Nkrumah liberated this country in 1957.

"This is because there is no difference between Akufo-Addo and the oppressors Nkrumah fought," he wrote.
