Geoscientists from the All-Russian Geological Research Institute of A. P. Karpinsky has emphasized the urgent need for raising public awareness and appreciation of geology, highlighting its critical role in understanding and preserving the Earth.

This call was reiterated during a lecture organized by the Karpinsky Geological Institute at the Ghana Museum of Science and Technology in Accra on May 13, 2024, within the framework of the Karpinsky Geological Class in Ghana.

Led by a team of esteemed Russian geologists, the event featured comprehensive discussions on the importance of geological studies and their impact on various aspects of life.

The lecturer emphasized that the study of geology is indispensable for numerous reasons, including resource management, environmental protection, and disaster mitigation.

“We have chosen to share our knowledge in geology and the experiences of Russian geologists to foster a global appreciation for this vital science,” the lecturer explained.

She added, “By creating awareness of geology around the world using all available tools, we aim to educate and inspire.”

The lecture series, designed to be accessible to all interested individuals, emphasizes the myriad of stories that geology can tell about the Earth.

From uncovering the history embedded in rock formations to understanding the dynamics of natural resources, geology offers insights crucial to our future.

The Karpinsky Institute team further elaborated on the initiative, stating, “We have tailored our lectures for everyone interested in geology. There are numerous stories we can share about the Earth, and we have spent several months preparing these sessions.”

Through sharing their expertise and fostering discussions, the team hopes to ignite a passion for geology among the public and highlight its significance in addressing contemporary challenges.

In addition to the lecture, the Karpinsky Institute unveiled an engaging geological exhibition. Attendees relished the chance to immerse themselves in the captivating realm of minerals, gaining insights into their geological significance and chemical compositions.

Notably, the exhibition shed light on the Geological Museum of the Karpinsky Institute, offering a nuanced exploration of its rich and often tumultuous history.

The event in Accra is part of a broader effort by the Karpinsky Geological Institute to promote geoscience education globally. The project named “Russian Geologist Abroad” includes the establishment of Karpinsky Geological Classes in foreign countries that are designed to create additional mechanisms for both geology students and all those interested in geoscience.

For that reason, apart from popular lectures and exhibitions, the Classes offer professional courses for geology students that are designed to foster geological education and create possibilities for future collaborative projects.
