Managing and making the Public sector work effectively has always become one major problem in Ghana. Its mismanagement has ended up with governments selling out entities to the private sector, who are mostly expatriates.

The challenge is common with most African countries. Some have argued that, various governments have efficiently empowered workers of the sector enough whilst others say it as the result of the bureaucracy Ghana practices.

However, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo has stated on a radio programme that, indeed the sector needs lots of reforms describing its current state as abysmal.

On Otec Fm in Kumasi last Saturday, he explained that as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Sector Reforms, he has noticed lots of dirt in the sector.

“I have seen lots of things which are not helping the public servants do their work effectively. They do not have the necessary equipments, the capacity, and love for the job is not there as well. Some offices are awful including environment within which they work in”. He categorically stated.

Mr. Boafo cited the location of the Ejisu District Assembly in the Ashanti Region where there are lots of indisciplined activities are going on.

“Right in front of the Assembly, there is a taxi station, sellers have also taking some part of the environment and lots of activities which do not create a serene atmosphere for work”

As part of the government initiatives to empower and bring sanity to the sector, Mr. Boafo hinted that, the Public Sector Reform is organizing a seminar in Kumasi for public workers.

The event he added will also bring together various stakeholders to help bring new innovations to the sector.
