Thief who broke into Graphic office jailed

Sunyani (B/A) May 18, GNA - The Sunyani Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Kofi Debrah on Tuesday sentenced Nii Ayitey Agyei, a 29 year-old unemployed to nine years imprisonment for stealing items valued at about 10 million cedis.

Agyei pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, unlawful entry and stealing and was handed three years on each count to run concurrently.

Solomon Siam, an accomplice is on the run. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi told the court that the complainants in the case were Mr. James Kwasi Baah, Cameraman and Mr. Samuel Kyei Boateng, a Journalist, both of the Graphic Communication Group Limited, Ms Mary Obenewaa, Sales girl of Taycom Limited and Mr. Mark Ansu Boakye of Brain Cee Tours Limited, all in Sunyani. The prosecution said on May 2, last year thieves broke into the offices of Graphic Communication Group at Cocoa House in Sunyani and stole a black bag containing one Minolta camera with flash, a radio recorder, 500,000 cedis cash, two identity cards and two books all belonging to Mr. Baah

The thieves also stole 200,000 cedis belonging to Mr. Kyei-Boateng and proceeded to the offices of Taycom Limited and Brain Cee Tours Limited where they also succeeded in stealing 12 packets of Bic Ball point pens,

one calculator, a stapler machine and 900,000 cedis cash. Chief Inspector Baafi said at about 10.30 am of May 2 last year Agyei was seen offering for sale the pens and was apprehended and handed over to the police. He said during interrogation Agyei denied knowledge about the theft and mentioned one Siam at Sunyani Zongo, a trader, as the one who gave him the pens for sale but efforts to trace Siam proved futile.
