Cable Thieves last Sunday raided the site of Ghamal Telecommunications Company, currently working at the new Cocoa Processing Company at the Freezone Enclave, and made away with two drums of cable wires valued at about ?200 million.
Mr. Alhassan Ibrahim, a sub-contractor to the company who spoke to the Chronicle stated that the drums of cable are of two types, a 10 pair ff which measures 827 metres and 30 pair 1B also measuring 171 metres were being used to supply power to the enclave.
He said an employee of the new Cocoa Processing Factory last Sunday informed them that somebody had removed one of the poles erected at the site and a senior officer of the company accompanied him to the site.
According to Ibrahim, they discovered at the site that the pole was removed because it was damaged by a rainstorm which hit the enclave last Tuesday. The two drums were later discovered stolen and they reported the theft to the police.
Chronicle intelligence report indicate that a group of cable diversion syndicate is operating within the municipality. Vehicles cited at Kpone last Tuesday at about 3pm with registration numbers GT 1775 B, KIA Cargo pickup, white BMW GT400 P, all driven by VRA employees and ECG Mercedes Benz double pick up GT 1272 R were loaded with quantities of cable wires.
