Accra, Aug. 10, GNA - Police in the Ministries area have recorded the theft of 34 computers and their accessories during the past two months, Police sources said on Tuesday.

Sources at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Service told the Ghana News Agency that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development; Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Railways, Ports and Harbours; Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Works and Housing had all been burgled.

The others were the Ministry of Food and Agriculture; Ministry of Tourism and the Beautification of the Capital City; Ministry of Road and Transport; Office of the National Governance Programme; National Sports Council and Ghana News Agency.

The Sources described the incidents as worrisome because in most cases there was no evidence of a break-in, which suggested that the culprits used duplicated keys. There were instances that they removed louver blades to gain access into the various offices.

Chief Superintendent Jonathan Yakubu, Divisional Commander at the Ministries Police Station in Accra confirmed the thefts.

He said Police suspected sabotage especially when there were no break-ins and also because the incidents could not have happened in the night due to Police patrols in the area.

Mr Yakubu said so far the Police had made no arrest but investigations were continuing.
