The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has expressed fears over the potential implications of the resounding majority won by his party in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
With the benefit of history, Dafeamekpor, who has been re-elected by the people of South Dayi for a third term in office, said it was intimidating being in the 7th Parliament as a member of the Minority, against the New Patriotic Party Caucus, which commanded a majority of 169 members as against the NDC’s 106.
“I experienced how intimidating the NPP was in the 7th Parliament with a 169 majority. We were just 106. Today, we have a 186+ majority? This is very scary,” he posted via X, following the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the presidential results of the 2024 elections.
The NDC has clinched victory in the presidential election with 56.55% of the total valid votes, as against the NPP’s 41.61%.
In the parliamentary contest, the NDC has won over 180 seats out of the total 276 parliamentary seats up for grabs.
