Bantama, the fortress of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, was set agog last night, with thousands of people turning up to welcome Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia into the constituency.

Dr. Bawumia, who is on a tour of the Ashanti Region, has received a mammoth reception from the over 30 constituencies he has so far toured. On Thursday, day 10 of the tour, constituents of Bantama came out in full force for the NPP's new leader.

Bantama Constituency has never voted less than 80% for the NPP in any presidential election in the 4th Republic, and on the evidence of last night's stunning crowd, the constituency appears set to continue with its emphatic endorsement, this time for Dr. Bawumia.

Before arriving at Bantama for the final tour of the day, Dr. Bawumia had, earlier in the day, visited two constituencies: Atwima Kwanyoma and Kwadaso Constituencies, where he had a similar huge crowd receiving him.

According to the itinerary spotted, Dr. Bawumia was scheduled to arrive at Bantama around 4 pm. By 3 pm, enthusiastic supporters had already painted the constituency with red, white, and blue colours of the NPP.

And at the venue for Dr. Bawumia's community connect, the final and main event in the constituency, it was packed with thousands, consisting of both the young and old, many hours before the NPP flagbearer arrived.

When he eventually arrived, the crowd was in a frenzy, and they accorded him and the MP for the area, Asenso Boakye, a thunderous welcome.

Addressing the charged crowd, Dr. Bawumia reminded them of how former President Mahama messed up the country when he was president.

He listed a number of difficulties and challenges the country faced under the leadership of Mahama, including huge youth unemployment, dumsor, cancellation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, poor ambulance service, and collapsing NHIA, among others.

He also shared with the crowd his numerous policies for the transformation of the country.

Meanwhile, the MP for the area, Asenso Boakye, has urged constituents to break a new record by voting 95% NPP in December.

"In 2020, we voted 85% NPP, but this time, we want 95% in December," said Asenso Boakye.
