Three Fulani Highway robbers and an accomplice have been arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after robbing transit vehicles at Dagomba Line, a farming community in the Central Gonja District.

Burotali Bello, Mahaadu Kaliko and Issahaku Mahama were among 6 others who blocked the main Tamale-Buipe highway on Sunday and attacked three transit cars from the Tema Habour bound for Burkina Faso.

According to Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, they robbed their victims of an amount of GH¢ 6,000 and other valuables.

Luck however eluded them when they flagged to a halt a military vehicle but on realizing they were armed security personnel, they jumped on their motorbikes and tried fleeing the scene.

The soldiers pursued and arrested two of them but the others, who sustained gunshot wounds in the course of exchanges, managed to escape arrest.

One of the wounded suspects in his bid to receive treatment at a medical facility at Buipe, was arrested together with the accomplice and handed over to the police who are currently on a hunt for the rest.

Two of the suspects have been identified as ex-convicts who were recently released from prison after serving various terms for similar offences.

All have been remanded in Prison Custody by a Tamale Circuit Court presided over by William Appiah Twumasi to reappear on September 23, 2016.
