The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted proposals to the office of the President for the establishment of three passport offices in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale. This forms part of measures at decongesting the Accra headquarters of the Passport office and speed up the processes for issuing passports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also taking measures to remove administrative bottlenecks and the bureaucratic procedures at the Passport Office to ensure that applicants are issued with their passports within one or two weeks. Foreign Minister Hackman Owusu Agyeman disclosed this in an interview with the “Daily Graphic” after he and his deputy, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris had toured the passport office.
The Minister personally gave orders for the immediate processing of two applications that were submitted in March during the tour. Mr. Owusu Agyeman was also told that the office was currently processing applications received in June and July even though a few applications submitted in May were still outstanding. Acquiring a passport in Ghana involves long processes which takes months to be completed.
