Three Robbers Shot Dead

Three dare-devil armed robbers were shot dead yesterday at Adenta Sakora, a suburb of Accra, around 1:30pm after a resident had sent distress message to the police.

Yesterday’s incident is coming barely two weeks after five armed robbers were gunned down by the police at East Legon in a broad daylight robbery.

Following the distress call, the police swiftly moved to the neighbourhood, killing the three robbers who had broken into the private residence of a prominent figure whose name police refused to disclose. In a Hollywood-movie style, the armed robbers had attacked a house in the area, pinning down the residents with their menacing firearms.

Unable to call the bluff of their captives, the residents could only succumb to the armed men, doing their bidding. Luck eluded the armed robbers when a neighbour in the vicinity got wind of the development and made a distress call to the police who moved in swiftly.

The movement was however done with reinforcement, given the situation on the ground. Upon the arrival of the police, the armed robbers stood their ground and engaged the security agents in a firefight which eventually led to the death of all the three marauders.

One of them suffered a lost eye at death, having taken a bullet in that organ. The location soon became a cynosure of local residents who swarmed the place to behold the development, with many of them wondering what has become of security in the country, especially in that part of Accra.

It would be recalled that on Friday November 5, 2010, at about 10:00am, six robbers attacked a house at Adjirigano in the East Legon neigbourhood where residents were ordered in broad daylight at gun point to succumb to the biddings of marauders.

Unknown to the robbers, the police had laid ambush, emerging and engaging the robbers in fierce exchanges which resulted in the death of five of the robbers, while the sixth person was captured alive.

Four locally-manufactured guns and a number of live and spent cartridges were retrieved from the scene. The Madina Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Paul Ayitey, who briefed the press, attributed the success to the joint effort of the Adenta/Madina police with reinforcement from the Regional Police Headquarters.

He called on the public to continually partner the police in the fight against crime, adding that the public should call 0302773906 or 0302773695 and MTN shot code 18555 while in distress. The police boss noted that despite the shortcomings of the police, they remain friends of the public and urged the general public to see them as such.

The police boss said the Police Administration and the government have promised to ensure that each police personnel is equipped with all the necessary crime fighting gadgets.
