Three arrested for trading in counterfeit notes

Three women have been arrested by the Half-Assini Police command for possessing and trading in counterfeit Ghana cedis.

The suspects, Rose Mary Ofori, 46, Comfort Kpobi, 35, and Janet Quansah, 19, were arrested at Tikobo No.2 Junction near Bawia after they had duped numerous traders in the surrounding villages.

The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police John Furgerson Dzineku, told GNA at Half-Assini, that Mr. Patrick Annor, Assemblyman for Mpim near Mpataba, assisted the police to arrest the suspects.

He said the suspects arrived in the twin town of Nvellenu & Bawia about 0830 hours where they began buying with the counterfeit notes from traders.

The District Commander said though they succeeded at Nvellenu, luck eluded them at Bawia near Tikobo No.2 junction where they played a similar trick on Mr. Amihere, a store keeper, but were identified by one Mr.Boah, also a store keeper as fraudsters and raised an alarm.

SP Dzineku said the suspects confirmed possessing fake notes. A search on them revealed a total of Ghc 1,803.00 counterfeit monies which they claimed was given to them by a Nigerian based in Takoradi.
