Three die in one week at TASCO

Tarkwa, Feb 15, GNA - Three students of Tarkwa Secondary School died of different sicknesses within one week at Tarkwa, the capital of Wassa West District.

The deceased are Morrison Adae and Enoc Akunor, both 16 years and in form one, were in the same class and in the same dormitory. The third student, Phillip Agyepong, 20, was in form two.

Adae died of pneumonia on 7th February, Akunor died of cerebral malaria on 9th February and Agyepong's cause of death is not yet available.

Mr Moses Ackah, the Headmaster, told the GNA that on February 5, Adae reported sick at the school's infirmary, was given first aid and was taken to the Tarkwa Government Hospital where he was admitted. In the evening of the same day, Akunor fell ill and was sent to a hospital popularly known as "ABA" at Tarkwa for admission. The Headmaster said on Wednesday 7th February, Adae died and two days later Akunor also passed away.

On 10th February, Agyepong fell sick and was sent to the Tarkwa Government Hospital Tarkwa where he was treated and discharged. He went to Raboni, a private hospital at Tarkwa the following day where he was admitted but was transferred to Okmfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where he died.

Mr Ackah said the school has written to the District Director of Health Services and a team from the Diseases Control Unit of the Tarkwa Government Hospital has come to the school for investigations.
