Three jailed 50 years for Robbery

Two persons who armed themselves with cutlasses and robbed three households of items and monies have been sentenced to a total jail term of 50 years by an Accra Circuit Court.

Michael Adjei Osekre, aka Baby Face, unemployed and Sowah Tetteh, a Labourer, were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, and robbery.

They were found guilty on the charges and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each by the court presided over by Mr Justice Francis Obiri.

The court also sentenced to 10 years, Mr Yaw Appiah, a businessman, for dishonestly receiving the stolen items and offering them for sale in his shop.

Osekre and Tetteh robbed Samuel Arthur of his laptop valued at GH?800.00, a phone and cash of GH?1,980.00.

They also robbed Ronald Asare Arthur of his laptop, a mobile phone worth GH?1,300.00 and cash of GH?150.00 as well as, one Duke Ofosu Arthur of two phones, valued at GH?340.00

Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Duuti Tuaruka, the prosecutor, told the court that, the three complainants reside at Teshie-Nungua and the convicts also reside in the same area.

Chief Supt. Tuaruka said on February 3, 2013, Osekre and Tetteh went to the house of the three complainants and threatened them to hand over their items or risked their lives.

During the operation, the convict slashed the hand of Ronald and when Duke woke up from his sleep; Tetteh slapped him with the cutlass and threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm.

The convicts also moved to Samuel’s room and robbed him of his laptop and cash of GH? 150.00.

They collected the complainants’ items and sold them to Appiah.

On June 25, 2013, Tetteh was arrested at Kwame Nkrumah Circle when he attempted selling some of his booty from another robbery.

Prosecution said Osekre mentioned Appiah as the one who bought their booty and sold them at his shop.

On June 29, 2013, the Police searched the house of Appiah and retrieved phones, including that of the complainants, Flat Screen Television sets, and sound systems which he could not produce receipts covering them.
