Three major overpasses on the Suame Interchange project have been opened to traffic, but for lightweight vehicles only.

Heavy-duty vehicles are currently not permitted to use the overpasses as part of measures to manage traffic flow and protect the ongoing works.

Speaking to OTEC News Reporters Kwame Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Kamasa on Monday, October 19, 2026, the Urban Roads Engineer at the Suame Municipal Assembly, Ing. Jerome Osei, said the move is aimed at reducing traffic congestion on the road.

According to him, all local roads including the overpasses under the project have been completed, with total works on phase two of the project now exceeding 80 percent.

He explained that the remaining works under phase two is the widening of the main road, adding that the contractor is already on site working to complete that aspect.

Ing. Osei further outlined alternative routes for heavy-duty vehicles, directing them to use the Tafo - New Road to Abawa Ruth area, then to Bruhukutu Junction before finally joining the Kumasi-Offinso main road.

He added that another alternative route for heavy-duty trucks is from New Road to Maase and then to Aduman.

He has therefore appealed to motorists, particularly heavy-duty drivers, to comply with the directive to ensure smooth traffic flow and early completion of the project.
