Sapelliga (U/E), Feb 1, GNA - Three men, including a 61-year-old, have been arrested by the Bawku Police after they had led a mob to vandalize a cargo truck that had collided with a motor bike, killing the rider at Sapelliga near Bawku.

They were also alleged to have prevented the police from removing the body of the motor rider that was trapped under the truck. They are Anaba Amediba, the 61-year-old man, Salam Musah, 32 and Haruna Musah, 22.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Inspector Andrews A. Yirenkyi said on Tuesday the unregistered motorbike veered into the truck's lane and collided with it.

The truck ran over the rider, Peter Azumdugi, but when the police got to the scene the mob prevented them from doing their work. He said the mob threatened to burn the police officers together with the vehicle if they did not leave the scene.

The police called in the Airborne Detachment Force but they vandalized the truck and pelted the soldiers with stones. Mr Yirenkyi said the security officers arrested the three and in the process a soldier received a deep cut on the forehead. The body of the rider was later retrieved and the damaged vehicle towed to the police station.
