Fri, 18 Feb 2011 Source: GNA

Kumasi, Feb 18, GNA - Three pedestrians were on Thursday evening killed in a freak accident at the Santasi Roundabout in Kumasi. They were walking by the roadside when logs on a timber truck fell on them, leaving two dead on the spot. The other victim, identified only as Faustie, a student of the Christian Service University College, later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the chain, fastening the logs snapped as the speeding truck belonging the Bibiani Lumber and Logs Company (BLLC) negotiated the roundabout. The huge crowd that gathered at the accident scene managed to remove the victims trapped under the logs but two of them were already dead. Police Superintendent George David Hlodze, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, said the police were looking for the driver of the truck who fled after the accident.
