Accra, May 18, GNA - Three Ghanaian Prison Officers have been selected by the United Nations (UN) for peacekeeping operations in Liberia, a statement from the Ghana Prisons Service said on Tuesday. The three, who left Ghana last Friday were the first batch of personnel from the Service deployed to UNAMIL to participate in the operations as Corrections Training and Development Officers. They are Mr Macarius Zusureekuu, Assistant Director of Prisons, Mr Sylvester Kojo Badu Rabbles, Chief Superintendent of Prisons and Ms Patience Oboshie Sai, Superintendent of Prisons.
The statement said Mr Zusureekuu in charge of the Winneba Prisons and Mr Rabbles of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, had BA (Hons) Degrees from the University of Ghana, Legon, and were Graduates of the Elizabeth Training Academy, Department of Corrections, Pennsylvania, United States.
Patience Oboshie Sai, Officer in charge of Sunyani Female Prisons, holds a BA (Hons) Social Science Degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and MSc in Criminal Justice Management from the Queen's University, Belfast, Britain. Mr W.K. Asiedu, Acting Director General of Prisons, congratulated the three pioneers and urged them to be worthy ambassadors of the Service and the country.
The next batch would commence operations in the Cote d'Ivoire before the end of the year.
