Three remanded for demolishing a building

Accra Sept. 14, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday remanded into prison custody three persons for demolishing a six-room building at Dome Pillar Two, near Accra.

Haruna Ali, Asaduna Mahama and John Owusu, whose pleas were not taken on charges of conspiracy, carrying offensive weapons threat of death, trespassing, causing unlawful damage and stealing. Their accomplices whose names were given as Abu, Fiifi and 17 others are now at large

Police Chief Inspector Benedicata Akolgo told the Court that about two years ago, the complainant acquired a building plot from the chiefs and elders of Dome Pillar 2 for a building project. Chief Inspector Akolgo said the complaint built a six- bedroom house up to lintel level and the accused persons among a gang of 17 people pulled down the house.

She said the accused persons attacked workers at the site and asked them to stop work immediately and demanded money from them. She said the leader of the group one Haruna Ali ordered the group to drive the workers away from the site if they refused to give the assailants money.

In the process one of the workers Michael Akumeyi dropped his bag but he was threatened that he would be butchered if he came back for it.

The bag contained a cell phone and 4.8-million cedis.
