Three robbers get 18 years imprisonment

Kumasi, Feb. 2, GNA -A Kumasi circuit court on Monday sentenced three robbers to six years imprisonment each in hard labour for stealing and assault.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges. A fourth accomplice is on the run.

Besides robbing and assaulting their victims, the robbers were said to have defiled a 14-year-old pupil of Asokore-Mampong Catholic Junior Secondary School.

They were Anusa Mohammed, 25, a Malian, Yaro Seidu, 25, and Moses Musah, 26, both drivers.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah told the court that at about 2100 hours on May 5, last year, the accused persons attacked one Solomon Gyamfi near Kumasi Academy where he and others were waiting for taxi.

She said while they were waiting for taxi, the three accused persons and the one on the run, appeared from nowhere and asked them to surrender everything they had on them at gunpoint.

Chief Inspector Kesewah said the accused persons took a mobile phone from Gyamfi, 500 pounds sterling and 150,000 cedis after subjecting him and the others to severe beatings, stripped naked a girl and forcibly had sex with her in turns.

She said after the ordeal, the girl identified one of them and this led to the arrest of the three while the fourth one ran away. Chief Inspector Kesewah said a report was later made to the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU).

She said the police are awaiting the docket on the defilement case to prosecute them in court.
