Three shelved nominations approved by Parliament

Accra, May 19,GNA- Three persons who had their approval as various deputy Ministers deferred by Parliament were on Thursday cleared and approved by the House.

There are Mr Daniel Duncan, Deputy Minister of Fisheries designate, Mr J.B.Danquah Adu, Deputy Minister of Women and Children Affairs designate and Nana Ato Authur, Deputy Central Regional Minister designate.

A report of the Appointments Committee signed by Mr Freddie Blay, Chairman, said no adverse findings against the three nominees were detected.

The report said Mr Duncan produced document to testify that he was awaiting the publication of the final results of a Bachelor of Science Degree, Administration, a course he had undertaken at the University of Ghana Business School.

On Mr Adu, who is the member for Abuakwa North, his qualification as a Chartered Accountant constituted the subject of further checks. "Indeed, the nominee produced a certificate duly signed and sealed by the association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA) in support of his qualification.

Nana Ato Arthur, acting District Chief Executive for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, was also cleared of the allegation of abuse of power.

He was alleged to have blacklisted a construction and electrical company from executing any contract within his district.

The report said he merely enforced a decision of the Assembly duly taken at its first ordinary meeting held on second and third April 2002. "Checks by the Committee confirmed that his explanation had been duly captured in the minutes of the said assembly meetings." In the Appointment Committee's seventh report dated 18 March 2005, it sought permission of the house to undertake further checks on the three nominees that resulted in the referral of their approval.
