A group of thugs numbering about 10 and aged between 16 and 30 years are terrorising residents of Twumduase new site near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), forcing them to live under fear.

The thugs have taken advantage of lack of electricity at some parts of the area to rob the residents.

Mr Ashitey Kwei, a driver, last Saturday was robbed of 490,000 cedis after manhandling him.

In the process, they inflicted wounds on his head and hands and later admitted to the University.

Narrating his ordeal to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Tuesday, he said, he was returning from Twumduase at about 10 pm when he was approached by a boy of about 18 years old.

Mr Ashitey said the boy asked him in French where he could find some food to buy but before he could direct him he was surrounded by eight others and attacked him, robbing him of his 490,000 cedis and inflicted wounds on him.

Three other people who were with Mr Ashitey also narrated similar ordeals and appealed to the Ashanti regional police command to step up patrols in the area at night to help arrest the thugs.

When contacted, Inspector Caesar Tobiga, officer in-charge of the KNUST Police confirmed the story and said though no arrests had been made, they were working hard to arrest the thugs.
