Thunder, Lightning strike: Watch your tongue when angry – Assin Andoe Chief advises

The Chief of Assin Andoe in the Assin South District who doubles as the Adontenhene of Apimanim Traditional council Nana Kwaku Atta Banafo has pleaded with Ghanaians especially married couples to be careful about their utterances whenever they quarrel.

According to him, fighting in marriage or relationship is normal but when the anger leads to invoking a curse, it becomes dangerous.

He said, “someone will say, I will not marry again, I won’t allow sex again, when I do thunder should strike me, but they mostly forget about those comment when their temper is down.”

Nana Atta Banafo made these comments after thunder killed a married couple on their farm at Assin Andoe Sibo Junction yesterday.

Background

Thunder has struck a couple to death after a heavy downpour Thursday evening at Assin Andoe Sibo Nkwanta in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

According to an eyewitness, Opanin Yaw Mensah, who is the father of the late Rita Nketia and in-law of Emmanuel Botwey he said, they were clearing a portion of land when the rain started so they stopped and stood at one place using plantain leaves as a canopy.

“We saw the first lightning and we wanted to go home but the rain was too heavy, suddenly there was another strange lightning and instantly I saw my wife, daughter and my son-in-law on the ground lifeless, my wife gained consciousness after some minutes but my daughter and son in law could not wake up again.”

Unconfirmed report says the couple fought and cursed themselves over Gh20 a day before the rains.

Opayin Yaw Mensah in an interview with the media confirmed that, the deceased couple were saving together to buy a plot of land, on Wednesday, Emmanuel Botwey took Gh20 from the savings to watch Eufa Champions League match and that resulted in a verbal fight: he said, they allegedly curse themselves not to marry each other again else thunder should strike them dead.
