Thursday’s Special Voting, which was fraught with missing names of registered voters, recorded 72.69 per cent voter turnout, according to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC). Out of a total of 126,875 registered voters, 92,231 persons turned out to vote.

Thursday’s exercise – meant for security officers, media practitioners and electoral officers who will work on election day December 7 – had to be continued on Sunday after several incidents of missing names.

By the provisional figures made available, the Upper East Region recorded the highest turn-out of 87.20 per cent while its twin region, the Upper West, recorded the lowest of 62.3 per cent. Greater Accra Region followed Upper West with a turn-out percentage of 65.18.

The exercise’s continuation on Sunday will be for “voters whose names are included in either the earlier Special Voters list or the updated one provided to the political parties”.

Voters whose names are on the Special Voters list will not be able to vote on Wednesday, December 7 as their bar codes will be deactivated from the biometric verification device. “Consequently, we urge everyone in the above listed categories to take advantage of this opportunity to exercise their franchise.”
