Accra, July 9, GNA - Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo network, has presented hearing aid equipment and a cheque of US$7,500 to the Audiology Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Ms Ama Daaku Solutions Manager of Tigo, who presented the equipment on Friday, said Tigo was deeply touched by the destruction of the Unit's equipment due to the fire outbreak three years ago and resolved to support it as a way of recognizing not only its efforts but also its service to the nation.

Ms Daaku said one could not overemphasize the importance of the ear to the body, which gives meaning to expressions and that some were not able to express themselves in this era of telecommunication because their love ones or friends were unable to hear.

She noted that Tigo believed that it was the right of every individual to hear, understand and speak back, which to them was the power of expression.

"It is our passionate wish that the lives of Ghanaians would be touched with the equipment and the work of the Surgeons made much easier," She added.

Ms Daaku said giving back to the community was key in all Tigo's operations across the world and also believed in the well-being, sustainability and productivity of the individual within the areas that they operate.

She said as part of Tigo's social responsibilities in supporting communities and improving lives, it had renovated schools including the Nima cluster of schools and the Opportunity Industrialization Centre.

Ms Daaku said Tigo had constructed hospital units, with the Atwima Mponua District Hospital and communities like Kokuramoah in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region had all received support from Tigo.

She said Tigo had also catered for the needs of patients in the Burns and Pediatric Units of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital through their generous financial support.

Professor Nii Otu Nortey, Chief Administrator of Korle-Bu Hospital on behalf of the hospital thanked the management of Tigo for the presentation, adding the equipment would be used for its intended purpose.

Prof Nortey appealed to individuals and other philanthropists to come to the aid of the department by donating cash or kind.
