Titus Glover builds school block at Manhean Methodist School

Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tema East Constituency, has cut sod for the construction of a Junior High School (JHS) classroom block at the Manhean Methodist Basic School at Tema Newtown in the Greater Accra Region.

The construction of the six-unit storey building with auxiliary facilities is to lessen the plight of the pupils of the school who walk for long distance to access JHS education.

The new school project, which is being funded by the GETFUND through the MP at the cost of over GH?300,000, is expected to be completed in 12 months.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony on the school’s premises, the headmistress of the school, Brakatu Addo, in her welcome address, expressed joy over the commencement of the project.

According to her, with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) ending shift system, the new classrooms block, when completed, would help accommodate the pupils to ease congestion in the various classrooms and boost the academic performance of the pupils.

Abraham Fletcher, Head of Unit for Planning and Statistics at the Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, lauded the MP for helping to undertake the project to enhance education in the Tema Metropolis.

Hon. Titus-Glover mentioned that he mooted the idea to improve education in his constituency when the constituents requested for the JHS section for the Manhean Methodist Basic School during his campaign to become an MP.

“This project will help pupils who travel far to attend JHS elsewhere after completing Primary 6 at Manhean Methodist Primary School. This is not the only project: I have another project at Twedease Primary School where I am going to fence the entire school land because encroachment of school land has become a problem and I am going to grass the field,” he noted.

He said the project was a clear demonstration of his commitment to making life comfortable for the pupils.

The MP cautioned the people against the theft of building materials such as cement and iron rods.

Hon Titus-Glover said he had sponsored over 300 students and also donated brand new laptops to some teachers in his constituency who were recognized in the last teacher awards.

“God willing next year, the library at the Manhean Senior High School will be completed. I will continue to allocate a chunk of my Common Fund to pay school fees of students in my constituency,” he said.

The contractor expressed optimism that the project would be completed on schedule.
