Eidul Fitr to be marked Today
The Ministry of the Interior, has announced that, Tuesday, November 25, 2003, which marks the celebration of the Eidul Fitr, is a statutory public holiday. The day will be observed as such throughout the country
Muslims have been urged to count Monday 24th November 2003 as the 30th day of the Ramadan and to fast on that day.
A statement in Accra on Sunday signed by Sheikh M Mahmud
Gedel, Chairman of the National Hilal Committee, said as late as 10 PM on Sunday, the new moon of Shawal had not been sighted anywhere in Ghana to mark the end of fasting.
It said that in consultation with the National Chief Immam and the Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Muslims should count Monday as the 30th day of Ramadan and to mark Tuesday, 25th November automatically as this year's Eidul Fitr.
It prayed for perfect peace, unity, progress and development for Ghanaians.
