In 2004, Former President Jerry John Rawlings was accused of beating-up the DCE of Bongo, Clement Apikiya. He denied the accusation stating that he only held his shoulder because he was being irresponsible.

According to reports, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo, Clement Apikiya, drove through a group of NDC supporters who were being addressed by the former President because the only road that led to his residence was blocked by the crowd.

The DCE however claimed that he sustained injuries from an attack by the bodyguard of the former President and some supporters who banged on his car.

Former President Jerry Rawlings has denied beaten up the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo in the Upper east region.

Although he concedes that he held the Mr. Clement Apikiya, he has completely denied beaten the man up.

I held his shoulder because he was been irresponsible. But I did not beat him. I held his shoulders and said ?Do you want to kill the people? ??, he told JOY FM.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the DCE drove through a group of NDC supporters been addressed by the former President.

The rally was been held at the only road that leads to the DCE’s residence.

The DCE has also confirmed the former President’s comments saying he was not beaten up.

He also told Joy FM the former President held his shoulder and shook him but he did not beat him up.

He said his car was attacked by a man believed to be the bodyguard of the former President banged on his car and the other supporters joined in.

He said he sustained a cut on his forehead.

The former President expressed surprise that the DCE sustained injuries during the incident.

I am not aware of that. I think he probably went home and did that to himself, he said.

The Police are yet to indicate whether they would conduct any investigations into the matter.
