Ghanaian showbiz icon Kwesi Kyei Darkwah was arrested on December 27, 2014, by the Airport Police after a 19-year-old lady accused him of raping her in a hotel room's washroom.

Mr. Darkwah admitted having sex with the lady identified as Miss Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson, but denied it was forceful sex insisting she consented to the act.

He was brought before the Kaneshie District Magistrates' Court after he had been detained for three days in police cells.

The court refused him bail and remanded him into police cells.

However, the District Court Judge, Justice Adjoa Akyamaa, said her jurisdiction lacked the authority to hear the case.

The case on February 18, 2015, was referred to the High Court for further proceedings.
