Today marks exactly three years when former President Jerry John Rawlings humorously commented on the looks of Asiedu Nketia at the 25th-anniversary rally of the NDC.

Speaking to some National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters at the Mandela Park in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Rawlings said the General Secretary of the NDC does not look physically appealing.

“It is a pity he is ugly (Rawlings bursts into laughter with the crowd). If he were handsome, we would put him on a horse to go and help. Considering how light he is like air, the horse will run faster,” he said.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings on Saturday jokingly told hundreds of National Democratic Congress’ supporters that it is a pity that the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is not handsome.

“When the time comes, it is a pity he is ugly (Rawlings bursts into laughter with the crowd). If he were handsome, we would put him on a horse to go and help. Considering how light he is like air, the horse will run faster,” he said in Twi.

The founder of the party was speaking at the 25th-anniversary rally of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mandela Park at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

The former President who was welcomed on the podium with a happy birthday song in recognition of his 70th birthday which falls later this month told the packed audience that the ball was in their court to prevent the process of unity from being hijacked.

Mr Rawlings amongst other things called for the embracement of family planning values as the lack of it seriously affects our development. He said the ability to cater to children’s education, feeding and clothing is all affected by the lack of family planning which is then transmitted to the community and to the nation as a whole.
