Togbe Sasraku II, chief of Tsrukpe in the Volta Region, and former national president of Ghana Federation of Agricultural Co-operatives (GHAFACOOPS), has been arraigned before an Accra circuit tribunal, for allegedly defrauding by false pretences.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is on a ?30 million bail with a surety. Presenting the facts pf the case to the tribunal, chaired by Alhaji Imoro Ziblim, the prosecutor, ASP J.K. Abraham, said the complainant, Kwabena Yeboah, is a trader in Kumasi, while Togbe Sasraku resides at Haatso, a suburb of Accra.

He said in 1995, Yeboah's brother who resides in Germany, sent home an amount of $4,500 to enable Yeboah to process the necessary documents to join him in Germany. ASP Abraham told tribunal that Tobge Sasraku then approached Tobge Sasraku for his assistance and he promised to help Yeboah.

He said Togbe Sasraku collected the money from Yeboah to secure him a USA visa and other documents but he was unable to honour his promise.

ASP Abraham said after collecting the money Tobge Sasraku went into hiding until a report was made to the Commercial Crime Unit of the CID Headquarters in Accra. He said several attempts at arresting him proved futile as he consistently escaped arrest until he was arrested at his hidout in Accra.
