Tontokrom youth clash with military over mining concession - Report

There was a tense standoff between some military men and some youth of Manso Tontokrom when the soldiers reportedly attempted to take over a mining concession site.

According to a report by Asaase Radio on Saturday, September 6, 2025, the military reportedly attempted to take over the concessions for Asanko Mines, an action that infuriated the youth.

In a video shared on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb, hundreds of youths gathered to burn tyres and block the road, creating a barricade to prevent the military from gaining access to the township.

Some of the aggrieved youths could be heard in the video saying they will not allow the military to take over the mining concessions.

“We did not come here to play around. We will not allow them,” one of the youths said in the video.

The military, also present in large numbers, was later seen retreating from the blockade.
