Tony Aidoo Threatens To Resign From NDC

A member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Tony Aidoo has reportedly threatened to resign his position in the party and reject all other responsibilities that the party might assign him.

The Independent newspaper reports that “the man who has in recent times, single-handedly fought perceived enemies on various issues concerning internal wrangling in the NDC (at the peril of his political life) believes that certain elements within that party are out to undo him.”

When reached for his comments on phone yesterday, Dr Aidoo replied tersely, “no comment.”

He simply thanked the journalist for calling him and hung up his telephone receiver. “The paper however reports that it has credible information “which speaks of a hysterical Tony Aidoo, fuming with rage after he had lost his position as head of the Research unit of the NDC, to the former Minister for Regional Integration, Kwamena Ahwoi as part of internal re-organisation being embarked upon by the new leadership of the party.”

Dr Aidoo allegedly wondered what was the rationale for removing him from a unit that was originally his idea and which he has nurtured to this stage. “He believes it is part of a grand design to frustrate him because of the position he took in the run up to the National Delegates Congress of the NDC,” a source intimated.

Tony Aidoo threatened that he would not relinquish his position as the head of the Research Department. Because of his defiant stand on the issue, the hierarchy of the party had no option than to organize elections between Tony Aidoo and Mr Ahwoi at the last NEC meeting of the party, which was held last week. The Independent quotes a source as saying that the election “demonstrated how unpopular Tony Aidoo is within the inner caucus of the NDC – he polled just four votes with the remaining going to Mr. Ahwoi.”
