Too much theory in Ghana’s education system – Educationist

Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Ashesi University College; Araba Botchway has called on universities in the country to be more practical in their teaching than using the theological methods of educating students.

In her explanation, she said there is too much of theory in our education system which isn’t helping students especially when they graduate; hence universities must redesign some of their courses to reflect the current needs of the industry and society and also take a second look at their mode of teaching.

Araba Botchway reiterated that students will be more of critical thinkers to the society if most of what they are taught in school is more of practical work than theory.

This she stated will help students especially graduates move forward and develop as they have the needed skills in the job market and the ability to think.

According to her, there will be no need for students to come for lectures if all they will be given are notes to study.

She emphasized on the need to learn and develop new modes of teaching to help reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

She stated if the mode of teaching were different, unemployment would have been low and encouraged lecturers and educationists to develop the need of being creative and innovative in their mode of teachings by developing new ways of lecturing students.
