The Ghana Methodist Church in Toronto-Canada, has inaugurated yet another society, Christ Little Band to support in training the youth to spread the word of God in the various communities they live in.
The 30 member society was inaugurated on Sunday by both the former and present superintendent ministers of the church, Very Reverend Jacob William French and Very Reverend[ Dr.] Emanuel Asare Kusi at a grand service at 19 Penn Drive on Finch.
Delivering the sermon under the theme,” obedience to God’s words” the former minister in charge of the church, reminded the congregation that the period of Lent on the Christian calendar was to set goals and agenda that will help followers of Christ to live a righteous life.
He observed that a brother or sister of Christ is the one who is obedient to him but not the one who has just been baptized or confirmed. Elaborating, he observed that to some people the basis of their life is just going to church, be seen by the crowd or people, what they can get from the church on feelings of what they should do. “But the basis of life is obedience to Christ which intern is the authority which determines the basis of life on earth. The basis of life is the word of God which moves us” he pointed out. Reverend French drew member’s attention to the fact that the devil is always the voice sitting by them but they have to listen to the voice of God which is the written word in the bible.
The minister of God urged his colleague followers of Christ to do away with division, infighting, back biting and rather love one another by feeding the hungry as well as help those who are poor in their communities they live in.
He advised members to be forgiving and not pay those who offend them by doing them evil since the bible says Vengeance is mine says the Lord. Giving a brief background about the establishment of the Christ Little band, Madam Esi Kakra, paid tribute to Reverend James Brodie Graham and Messrs Herbert Solomon and John Mayno Plange who conceived the idea of forming the band in 18885.
According to her it was Reverend J.B.Graham, who encouraged women’s membership of which Madam Mary Quansah, became the first female member after 13 years of the bands existence in 1899.
Madam Esi Kakra, cautioned members to refrain from any freshly and unhealthy association between the opposite sex that may quench the spiritual vision of the band and make it seem like any other ordinary organization. The Christ Little Band as an organization in the Methodist Church seeks to fulfill its original charge to evangelize and make the gospel message applicable to the social needs and concerns of the people to ensure the salvation of all mankind.
She called on members into a new life of scriptural holiness to get saved from the works of the flesh and exhibit the fruit of the spirit an objective they need to pursue in unity as a the Band’s Slogan demands.
It is also worthy to note that one time eminent educationist of the Gold Coast, Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey, became the first national secretary of the band in 1898.
