Tourism holds great fortunes for Ghana

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey on Wednesday said Ghana abounded with great tourism potentials that were capable of turning round the fortunes of the country.

He said the game reserves, parks, and other natural sites around the width and breadth of the country held a tremendous tourism opportunity for the nation.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey was speaking at a video screening of the "Tour of President John Agyekum Kufuor" made by Forest Sawyerr, an American Veteran Newscaster.

The President, who posed as a tour guide took his guest through all the interesting tourists attraction sites in the country. They visited the Elmina Castle, Kakum National Park in Cape Coast, Boaben- Fiema in the Brong Ahafo Region, Tafo Cocoa Farms and Paga Crocodile Pond among other sites.

Mr Edward Boateng, Director of Global Media Alliance, said the film, which had so far been screened in the United States was greeted with a lot of amazement as they could not believe the enormous tourism potentials of Ghana.

He noted that the film was being used as a tourism tool to sell the tourist potentials of Ghana abroad.

"Just as it worked for Uganda, boosting its tourism capacity to 30 per cent around Africa and 60 per cent worldwide, we believe it would work for Ghana", he said.

Mr Boating expressed optimism that by next year, the full benefits of the film, which was also shown on aircraft and other strategic places, would be realised.
