Track down officers who butchered driver – Adam Bona to IGP

Security Expert, Adam Bona wants the Inspector General of Police to launch investigation leading to the arrest of the police officers who allegedly butchered a 33-year-old driver Tuesday evening, at Asante-Adomfe.

“I’m calling on the IGP to identify the Police officers and interdict them as soon as possible. At least that will calm the nerves of the indigenes in the area,” Adam Bona told Starr 103.5 Fm.

He said the Police administration must step up the control and monitoring of its men in order to curb the Police brutalities being recorded lately.

Meanwhile, the IGP has asked the Ashanti regional Police Commander to liaise with the Konongo Divisional Police for more information about the heinous crime.

The incident comes barely 24hrs after the IGP, James Oppong-Boanuh directed senior police officers to begin the supervision of Highway patrols, traffic checks and snap operations on the roads aimed at cracking down on Police unprofessional conduct on traffic duties.

Police in the Ashanti region allegedly beat up and butchered a 33-year-old driver Tuesday evening, causing his death shortly after.

Locals of Asante-Adomfe told sister-station Starr Fm that about seven police officers with three in uniform stormed the area for an operation and had an altercation with the deceased, restrained him to the ground, kicked and punched him in the face before some of the officers started butchering him with a machete.

The Assemblyman for the area Samuel Kofi Boadu said the policemen who were on patrol searched for one Mr Kamkam and another Yaa Yaa who reside in the area.

He said since they did not find these individuals, they ransacked their homes and did not find anything as well.

He detailed “so when they were returning from the girl’s place, they met two guys on the street and they just grabbed them. And one of them was asking what he had done, and in trying to explain, they started beating him up, and one of the police personnel went to the patrol vehicle and took a cutlass and cut his back very deeply.”

He went on “so after cutting the person, those around there started approaching the police, and on realizing that the mob was increasing they started giving out warning shots, about 7-8 shots, then they put the victims into the car and sped off."

Mr Boadu said he called the district police commander to find out about the patrol team but was informed that no police personnel were deployed to the area.



Sister of the deceased Abena Gyamfi said the family is shattered by the killing of their brother.

She disclosed that her deceased brother was with one Kwame Boateng who is behind bars now assisting investigations.

She said her late brother had so many cuts all over his body.

“Most parts of his body had been bandaged and the police say they cannot identify the police officers who were at post when the incident happened,“ she said.

District Police commander for the area Superintendent Anyani Andrews confirmed the incident to Starr News adding that the policemen involved in the incident are not from his station, but from the Konongo Division.

He confirmed that “there was police presence in the community, there was an arrest, and this morning one of those arrested was reported dead”.
