Trader in court for fraud

Kade, Sept 29, GNA - Kwabena Boateng, a trader, who is facing the charge of fraud at the Kade District Magistrate Court, on Wednesday made a second appearance there for fraud by false pretences He pleaded guilty and was remanded in Police custody to re-appear on October 5.

Police Detective Corporal Isaac Owusu-Achiaw told the court that in June this year, Boateng, who resides at Asamankese and claimed to be a supplier of food items to educational institutions and market women, told the complainant, Rakia Mumuni, a dealer in foodstuff that he wanted to transact business with her.

The prosecution said Boateng managed to collect six bags of maize valued GHC 320 and two bags of beans valued GHC 360 from the complainant and promised to pay the amount in two weeks time but failed to do so. Corporal Owusu-Achiaw said that the complainant went to the house in which Boateng claimed he lived but she was told that the accused had never been a tenant there.

The prosecution said that on September 9, the complainant spotted the accused at Asamankese and alerted the Police resulting in his arrest. During investigation Boateng admitted the offence in his caution statement to the Police.
